Please take care when going to the beaches as most of them unattended. The closest beaches are just a few minutes walk. Going out from the front gate and turning left will take you to the first one. It is a rocky beach and you may want to stay in the rocks at both side of the bay. You will find it on the left hand side and you can access it via a little path, it is only about 2 minutes walk. Continuing on that same road for about 5 minutes walk more, you will find another path to your left that will take you to the rocks. You will see people both fishing and just jumping off a platform (if you feel adventurous)
A little further down, 5 more minutes or so will take you to the next beach. This one is sandy and backs on to a salt water swimming pool complex (LAGO PARAISO) that charges a small fee to get in. Here is also where AQUANAUTIC dive centre is based too. (More details on the back of this guide) After the Lago Paraiso pool, you will find a few small restaurants and just on the left hand side you will get into a promenade that borders the Hotel ‘Roca Nivaria’. It is worth walking this distance (all of 15 minutes from the apartment!) as you will get to a really beautiful sandy beach. If on the other hand you go out of the gate and turn right, and right again, and right again) a 20 minute walk (3 minute drive) will take you to the fishing town of el puertito, idilic and very small with a lovely beach too. See the map at the end of the guide.
There are two restaurants in the yellow building right at the bottom of the road. One is called Lino’s Café and Punta Paraiso Restaurant. This last one has the best view of the sunset in the island! It is worth staying for a drink and relax, their cocktails a pretty good too! Punta Paraiso Facebook page
Just slightly further afield out very best favourite restaurant is in Los Abrigos and it is called Los Roques. Can’t say enough good things about it. Los Roques
If you feel like getting to know the neighboring areas of La Caleta, El Duque (Very posh shopping mall in here), Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos, you can Drive to la Caleta, park your car and walk on the promenade, it will take you about 3-4 hours to walk it all but is worth doing or you can split it in stages and do a little every day. In Puerto Colon there is a little café just across from the Marina called Mandaya that is worthwhile popping into!
Centro Comercial Plaza el Duque (5 Minutes drive) High end shopping
